Copying materials (incl. labels) in Keyshot 13.1.1 (Build 4) [4.11.1]

Hi there,

not sure if this has already been reported (or is it a known issue?) and sorry for the long version in the topic - although I updated my version to the latest version I still don’t know if this is KS 2024.x?
But anyway, that’s not the issue.

Here’s what I do encounter:
I load a KS-file (created in the previous version) which includes a material (including a label) of an object.

Next, I do the following:

  • Since I updated one of the objects (existing as a STEP-file), I imported the new object (STEP) into KS.
  • Then I searched for the part of the initial STEP-object and do a right-click on it and select “Material” - “Copy Material”.
  • On the corresponding part of the (new) object I select “Material” - “Paste Material”. Unfortunately this only pastes the material but none of the labels.

Afaik, in the past this copied not only the material but also any labels (regardless if activated or not).

Is it only me or is it a known issue?
Any idea how to workaround it (instead of doing the whole work of placing the label(s) again)?

Thanks and best
Eric

While I’ve not tested this myself right now, the label is a property of material, so it should copy over as you want/expect. However, in this case, there may be an issue where the mapping of that label is getting changed in the paste process.

If you look at the material graph of the pasted material, do you see a node for the label? And if so, can you check its mapping properties?

Hi Will,
thanks a lot for the quick reaction and the help!
Forget about this - most of the time the error is due to the person in front of the monitor.
Same here - it was my fault and please  don’t let me explain why…would be embarrassing for me 🫣:joy:
Thanks again and kind regards
Eric

Hahah. we have all had those moments, the infamous PBKAC (Problem Between Keyboard And Chair) errors. My friend in IT for a local government actually has a problem ticket closed status they made for this exact thing!
